Not your typical day at the Ranch . . .

The 2011 AROHO Retreat gathers women writers in a stimulating community of peers.  The Retreat is an opportunity for cross-pollination in a group that fosters excellence through mutual support.  Nestled among the same red rocks that inspired Georgia O’Keeffe, AROHO Retreatants will enjoy abundant time to write, reflect, and connect with other women writers.

Silent Group Writing

Dedicated Small Groups

In morning gatherings, one of four featured writers explores new writing paths. In afternoon mind stretches, members of the community take turns teaching innovative skills and fostering honest conversation about writing and the writing world.  A normally silent time set aside to write in the company of others. Occasionally a master writer will lead a pre-announced guided writing session. The Silent Writing Room remains open day and night. Structured around shared interests, dedicated small groups gather before dinner to delve into the day’s insights in a more personal, collaborative way.

Desert Delights
Inspiration comes in many forms— Hike and write excursions, yoga, visual art, guided conversation, performance. Like the richest sweets, Desert Delights are meant to be Pleasurable Indulgences; eating too many may cause stomachache and regret at loss of fertile idleness. To be consumed responsibly. Or, what the hell, eat them all—you only live once! The choice is yours.
Fertile Idleness

Readings & Social Hour

Consulting Sessions
Generous amounts of free time carved out to write, think, rest, & reflect. Activities will be available, but downtime also leads to good writing and good living. Any writer at the retreat may sign up to read a five-minute slice of her work.  Afterwards:  wine, beer, and conversation.                Manuscript editing, publication advice, and other services available for an additional fee.
